Overal Rating: 7 Spark Woodfire Grill - Studio City

Address: 11801 Ventura Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 91604

Spark Woodfire Grill - Studio City

In May of 1999, Bill Chait, Danilo Terribili and chef Jeff Sladicka partnered to open this Studio City restaurant specializing in mesquite-grilled meat and seafood. The second floor hosts a sleek black lounge and a dining room framed by wine racks, but the real action is downstairs, in a boisterous dining room with views of the exhibition kitchen. At lunch, expect to find entertainment execs. During the week, Spark draws locals, and on weekends, it’s a dater’s playground. Signature dishes include Roman-style pizzas, grilled Atlantic salmon, and steaks. No matter what you order, save room for the house-baked apple walnut cobbler.

Overal Rating: 6 Mandaloun

Address: 141 S. Maryland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 91205

Mandaloun

Mandaloun brings a slice of the Mediterranean to Southern California, with a rich ambiance filled with silk draperies and chandeliers. The lush and festive atmosphere is an ideal setting to enjoy Mandaloun’s authentic Lebanese cuisine. The extensive menu offers a variety of dishes, however it is the meze, or small plates, that are most popular. Over forty tapas-style dishes range from simple baba ghanoush to the intricate kafta nayeh, or sirloin tartare, and a fixed-price option offers the perfect way to sample from the dazzling array of tastes and flavors. Patio dining allows the enjoyable hookah after a meal, while inside seating offers ideal views of the late-night weekend entertainment.

Overal Rating: 6 Canelé

Address: 3219 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90039

Canelé

Canelé’s pedigree will impress those on both the east coast and the west, with Chef Corina Weibel hailing from Campanile and Lucques, and General Manager Jane Choi hailing from Balthazar and Pastis in New York City. Together, they have created a charming and intimate space, where simple, unfussy bistro food and a reasonable and carefully selected wine list team up to offer guests a flavorful respite. Think comforting dishes such as roast chicken with sweet corn, potatoes, and summer squash; seared beef tenderloin with bordelaise sauce, pommes frites, and creamed spinach; and salt-roasted branzino with parsley, celery salad, and capers. While they don’t take reservations, this neighborhood bistro is one spot not to miss, whether or not you live in the neighborhood.

Overal Rating: 7 Ca Del Sole

Address: 4100 Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 91602

Ca Del Sole

Recommended Restaurant Located just North of Universal Studios along a busy stretch of Cahuenga Blvd, Ca’ del Sole stays true to its name as a sunny spot in an otherwise gloomy culinary scene. Amid the lush greenery of the outdoor patio or beside the fireplace between the two dining rooms, guests can enjoy the authentic and comforting Italian cuisine of Chef Soerke Peters in a quiet, homey atmosphere. The flexible bar menu is great for a small bite alone or to share with friends, and the daily “dinner deal” offers a great three course meal for only thirty dollars. Whether it’s a special occasion or a relaxed Sunday brunch with friends, Ca’ del Sole gives diners a reason to come to the Valley.
