Ketchup

Top 10 Best Restaurants Lonnie Moore and Mike Malin have become L.A. tastemakers thanks to their Dolce Group, which derives its name from their initial enoteca. The duo debuted Ketchup on the Sunset Strip in April 2007 and quickly attracted scenesters and celebrities, who flocked to the sleek red and white restaurant for spectacular views of the Hollywood Hills. Moore and Malin worked with Chef Chris Tunnell to create a gourmet menu of childhood favorites, including Kobe beef hot dogs and macaroni and cheese with white truffle and Dungeness crab. The theme even extends to cocktails that incorporate Yoo-Hoo and Kool-Aid.

Overal Rating: 7 Second Story

Address: 3501 Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

Second Story

Larkspur Hotels’ takeover of the boutique Belamar Hotel resulted in a $5 million renovation. No space benefited more than the second floor restaurant, which debuted as Second Story in March 2008 with an early 70’s vibe and a compelling menu of American comfort food from Chef Vania Almeida. The restaurant, situated less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean, draws a mix of hotel guests, locals and neighborhood businesspeople. Second Story serves three meals daily, with the most ambitious food surfacing at night, highlighted by horseradish crusted Alaskan halibut with organic mushroom risotto and honey roasted chicken breast with Parmesan polenta and roasted pistachio Brussels sprouts.

Overal Rating: 7 Holdren's Steakhouse

Address: 512 State Street, Los Angeles, CA 93101

Holdren's Steakhouse

Editor's Pick Situated in the heart of Santa Barbara’s downtown scene, Holdren’s provides diners classically prepared steaks as well as seafood with a distinctively Californian flair. The patio offers views of this resort town’s palm-lined streets and upscale shops, while indoors the brick walls and leather booths bestow a charm akin to the traditional steakhouses of Chicago or New York. Though in business a mere four years, Holdren’s boasts the oldest bar in Santa Barbara, so it comes as no surprise that the martini list contains an array of unique specials and the extensive wine list is suitably matched to the hearty cuisine.
